Sometimes the most frustrating things for beginners in Movable Type turn out to be simple and painfully obvious, once you have figured them out. Adding links to to your first weblog or adding a link to an entry can be one of those things if you are not used to html.
Adding a link to an entry.
To add a hyperlink to an entry you need to write out the entire hyperlink tag. For example, if you want to add a link to Learning Movable Type to your entry, you need to type in the Entry Body the following text:
<a href="http://www.learningmovabletype.com/">Learning Movable Type</a>
So if you type:
Check out the tips at <a href="http://www.learningmovabletype.com/">Learning Movable Type</a>.
into your Entry Body, the entry will read:
Check out the tips at Learning Movable Type.
Opening Links in a New Window
If you would like your links to open in to a new browser window, you need to add the
target="_blank" to your link code like so:
Now the link Learning Movable Type will open in a new browser window.
Adding a Link section to your MT3.2 blog
In the default Main Index template of MT3.2, find the
div id="beta" section. In the default template, you will see the various sidebar sections divided by a blank line. First there is Search, then Category, then Monthly. Add a links section with the following code:
Add your links here with the links you wish to add, separated by a break tag
Save and rebuild your template.
